I return to 6 Kamares because it consistently delivers what I want from an Old Port taverna: properly cooked meat, generous portions, relaxed service, and a direct lighthouse view. This is not a recommendation based on one quick visit — it is a restaurant I know and trust.
Atmosphere
Although 6 Kamares sits in one of Chania’s busiest areas, dinner does not feel loud or rushed. The glow from the grill, sea air, and evening movement along the waterfront create a relaxed atmosphere. Most guests are visitors, but the service still feels warm and personal.
6 Kamares Chania Menu: What to Expect
The menu focuses on traditional Greek and Cretan dishes, particularly grilled meat, antikristo, kontosouvli, starters, and family-friendly options. The dishes below reflect our own visit rather than the restaurant’s complete or current menu.
What We Ordered
We visited as a family. The kids ordered μακαρόνια “καρμπονάρα” (macaroni carbonara), while my wife and I shared a large pork steak. The portion was big enough that we could not finish it, so the staff packed the rest as “πακέτο” to take home.
With several orektika (starters) and four beers, our October 2025 family bill came to around €130.
Complimentary Desserts
Our meal ended with three desserts and ice cream, offered by the restaurant. It was a generous finish to the evening, although complimentary dishes may vary between visits.
Signature Dish: Antikristo
One of the reasons to choose 6 Kamares is their traditional
“αντικριστό” – meat grilled around an open fire. On the Old Port,
almost nobody else prepares it this way. It’s a rare, old technique and the flavour is
unmistakable.
Location & Parking Tips
6 Kamares is located directly on the Old Venetian Port, close to the museums and historic streets of Chania Old Town. Parking near the waterfront is limited and finding a space there can be difficult.
A more practical option is the parking area near Σκλαβενίτης (Sklavenitis) supermarket. It can also become busy, but there is usually a better chance of finding a space. The entrance has a height barrier of approximately two metres.
From there, it is an easy walk through the Old Town toward the harbour, with a classic view of the Chania Lighthouse along the way.

6 Kamares works particularly well for:

- travellers wanting a first introduction to Cretan cuisine,

For me, 6 Kamares remains one of the most dependable restaurants on Chania Old Port. It is my first choice for properly cooked meat, generous portions, and a relaxed dinner without a formal fine-dining atmosphere.
