Important Reality About Waterfalls in Lasithi

Eastern Crete is significantly drier than western Crete. Most waterfalls in Lasithi depend on seasonal rainfall and may be inactive during peak summer.

Water flow is strongest from late winter through spring.

1. Richtis Waterfall

The most reliable and accessible waterfall in Lasithi is located inside Richtis Gorge.

  • Height: approx. 20 meters
  • Best season: March–May
  • Swimming: Possible but water remains cold

This is the only waterfall in the region that consistently attracts visitors.

2. Milona Waterfall (Near Ierapetra)

Located near the village of Milona on the south side of Lasithi.

  • Height: approx. 15 meters
  • Seasonal flow
  • Short access hike required

Flow is highly dependent on winter rainfall.

3. Seasonal Mountain Waterfalls

Smaller waterfalls may appear in:

  • Orino Gorge
  • Mountain ravines in Thripti
  • After heavy rainfall in winter

These are not permanent attractions and should not be relied upon in summer.
