Overview

Dimos Restaurant is one of the long-established tavernas in the Old Venetian Port of Chania — a place where locals still eat, not just tourists. That alone says a lot.

The menu stays traditional: fresh fish, seafood, Greek classics and generous portions served right next to the water. If you’re looking for authentic Cretan cuisine without tourist traps, this is one of the best choices in the harbour.

Atmosphere

Dimos sits directly on the waterfront — your table is literally a few meters from the sea. The atmosphere is lively: waves, people walking along the promenade, small boats, sunlight reflecting on the water.

We sat under the canopy, with a light sea breeze and perfect afternoon sun — a classic Old Port setting.

  • Glossa (European Flounder) — a rare catch, soft texture, perfectly grilled
  • Mussels in sauce — fresh, juicy, large portion
  • Horiatiki (Greek village salad)
  • Two beers

Total for two: 45€
A very fair price for fresh seafood in the Old Port.

Everything was genuinely delicious — perfectly cooked, generous portions, fresh ingredients, and clean flavours without excess oil. A real example of authentic Cretan cooking.

Service & Hospitality

Fast, friendly, old-school Greek service. At the end we received the traditional Cretan hospitality:
