Avoratos Beach Bar – Falassarna Beach 2025 Guide & Sunbed Prices

Avoratos Beach Bar – Falassarna Beach 2025 Guide & Sunbed Prices

Avoratos Beach Bar is one of the most relaxed spots on Falassarna Beach, set on the quieter left side of the bay. Here you still get soft sand, crystal–clear water and organized sunbeds – but without the crowds and noise of the central zone. In August 2025 a set of two sunbeds with umbrella cost 15 €, which is a rare price on one of the most famous beaches in Crete.

This guide is written by a local who visits Falassarna year after year – for morning walks, fishing and the feeling of open space. If you are looking for a calm base on a busy beach, Avoratos Beach Bar is a very good option.

Where is Avoratos Beach Bar on Falassarna?

Falassarna is a long sandy bay on the west coast of Crete. Most visitors stay in the central area, where the big parking, tavernas and beach clubs are located. Avoratos Beach Bar lies further to the left (south), closer to the dunes and greenhouses.

From the main Falassarna parking you can either:

  • walk along the beach for about 10–15 minutes towards the left side, or
  • drive down the coastal road until you see the wooden terrace of Avoratos and the sandy area with their sunbeds.

The official Google Maps pin is set correctly, with coordinates around 35.484 °N, 23.578 °E. In your GPS simply search for “Avoratos Beach Bar Falassarna”.

Parking and access

In recent seasons parking in Falassarna has changed. It is no longer possible to stop anywhere along the roadside – new “no parking” signs push most visitors into the main paid parking areas. As a local, I prefer to keep my car close, but for many tourists the official parking is easier: you park once, forget about the car and spend the whole day by the sea.

Near Avoratos there is usually space to stop for a short time and drop off passengers and beach bags. If you are lucky, you may still find a shady spot under a tree – which is very important in August, when the temperature can reach 38–40 °C and car doors feel like a hot pan.

Atmosphere: quiet side of a famous beach

The central part of Falassarna is often packed: loud music, traffic, people searching for a free sunbed. Avoratos Beach Bar feels different. It is still part of the main beach, but the left side is calmer, with more space between umbrellas and a more relaxed rhythm.

  • Wooden deck with comfortable chairs and tables under big shade sails.
  • Wide open view towards the sea and the rocky islets of Falassarna.
  • Soft sandy bottom and shallow entry into the water – perfect for easy swimming.
  • Background lounge & jazz music instead of aggressive beats.

Most of the orders go directly to the beach: guests lie on their sunbeds and the staff brings drinks and snacks. At the same time the bar counter is a good place to sit for a while, watch the waves and let your partner enjoy the sea.

Sunbeds and prices at Avoratos Beach Bar (2025)

On most organized beaches in Crete the standard summer price in 2025 is around 20 € for two sunbeds with umbrella. At Avoratos I paid 15 € for two sunbeds on a busy August day – a pleasant surprise for such a popular beach.

What you get with your sunbed set:

  • Use of the sunbeds and umbrella for the whole day.
  • Access to clean toilets inside the bar.
  • Outdoor showers and a small changing cabin on the sand.
  • Service to your sunbed for drinks and snacks.

Prices can change slightly from season to season, so always check the sign near the entrance or ask the staff when you arrive. In high season it is wise to come earlier in the day or contact the bar in advance if you want a front–row umbrella.

Food & drinks: what is on the menu?

Avoratos is not just a bar with umbrellas – it has a full beach menu. The exact list changes over time, but you can usually expect:

  • Coffees & breakfast drinks – espresso, cappuccino, freddo coffee styles, fresh juices.
  • Light snacks – toasts, club sandwiches, coleslaw, fries.
  • Gyros & burgers – pork gyros in pita, cheeseburgers, special house burgers.
  • Pizzas & hot dishes – simple beach pizzas to share with friends.
  • Cocktails, beers & long drinks – from classic mojitos to local beers; I personally went for a cold beer after a long walk along the shore.

The menu is clearly presented on their official website, but on the spot you usually just sit down, relax and let the waiter guide you. Portions are beach-style: generous enough after swimming, but not too heavy for the midday heat.

Activities from Avoratos: sea kayak, snorkelling & more

One of the interesting things about Avoratos is that they also help arrange activities on Falassarna Beach. Through their partners you can:

  • Join a snorkelling or introductory scuba diving session in the clear waters of the bay.
  • Book a sea kayaking tour along the coast – often in small groups, with single or double kayaks.
  • Ask about sunset experiences or other special programs when the weather and sea conditions allow.

These activities are usually “on request” – you contact the bar, and they connect you with the dive or kayak team. Prices depend on the season and program, so it is best to write to them in advance or ask at the bar the day before.

Parties & pre-wedding events at Avoratos

Falassarna is a classic sunset location in Crete, and Avoratos uses this advantage very well. They organize pre-wedding parties, birthdays and private sunset events right on the beach.

Imagine a wooden arch with lights, low tables on the sand, cocktails, soft lanterns and the sun going down behind the sea – this is the style you see in their gallery. For couples getting married in Chania region it can be a beautiful place for a relaxed pre-wedding evening with friends.

If you are planning a special event, you can contact them via the reservation form on their website, by e-mail or by phone / WhatsApp. Explain the date, number of people and type of celebration – the team will suggest options and prices.

Local Insight — by Zurab Peikrishvili

I visit Falassarna many times every year. My ritual is simple: arrive early, walk five or six kilometres along the shore, sometimes go for a bit of fishing, and only then sit down for a coffee or beer. For me this morning walk is like brushing my teeth – a small tradition that keeps my head clear.

When I first noticed Avoratos Beach Bar it was winter. The terrace was empty, the sea was wild, and the whole place looked like a wooden ship waiting for summer. Later, in August, I finally tried it on a busy day. The central Falassarna was completely full; music, cars, people everywhere. On the left side, near Avoratos, there was still space and a softer atmosphere.

I paid 15 € for two sunbeds, left my wife in the sea and sat at the bar with a cold beer. The staff were running non-stop between terrace and beach, but still remained friendly and helpful. The toilets were clean, the showers worked, and the whole operation felt well organized. Around me were families, couples, and even a few people who looked like they came for several days with tents on the more remote parts of the beach.

For me Avoratos is not a luxury, “see and be seen” place. It is a comfortable base on a big, beautiful beach – with good prices, honest service and space to breathe. If you are planning a day in Falassarna and prefer a quieter corner with proper facilities, this bar on the left side is a very solid choice.
