Kedrodasos Beach (Crete, 2025 Guide) — Wild Juniper Paradise near Elafonisi

This beach guide is part of the Best Beaches in Chania collection.

Why Visit Kedrodasos Beach

Just one kilometer west of Elafonissi Beach, Kedrodasos feels like a completely different world — wild, quiet, and untouched. This hidden treasure is famous for its ancient juniper trees (a protected natural zone), soft white sand, and shallow turquoise waters. Unlike busy Elafonissi, Kedrodasos stays calm even in high season, making it perfect for travelers looking for silence, shade, and real nature.

The beach is officially protected — no buildings, no sunbeds, no cafés. Only the sound of the wind through the junipers and the soft waves on the shore. This is one of Crete’s last true wild beaches.

How to Get There

Kedrodasos is located about 10 minutes by car from Elafonissi. The last stretch is a dusty gravel road followed by a short walking path (5–8 minutes). Any car can reach the parking area, but drive slowly — the road is narrow and rocky in some parts.

Parking is free, but limited. In July–August, come early in the morning for the best spots.

What to Expect

Water & Sand

The water is incredibly clear and shallow near the shore — perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing. The sand is a mix of white, beige, and tiny shells, giving the whole beach a soft and natural look.

Juniper Forest (Protected Area)

The highlight of Kedrodasos is its forest of old juniper trees. They create natural shade and surreal shapes — an amazing place for photography. Please do not break branches or hang hammocks on the trees; they are extremely fragile and protected by law.

Wind & Weather

The beach is known for stronger winds than Elafonissi. On windy days, you’ll see kitesurfers nearby, but the main area still stays calm enough for swimming.

Tips for Visitors

  • Bring water and snacks — there are no facilities at all.
  • Wear good shoes for the short rocky trail from the parking.
  • Best visiting times: early morning or late afternoon.
  • Do not leave trash — the beach is protected and fragile.
  • No umbrellas for rent — use natural shade under the junipers.
  • Great place for photography, sunset shots, and quiet swimming.
