Region Lassithi

Lasithi Region at a Glance

The Lasithi Region covers the eastern side of Crete. It is the quietest part of the island, with bays around Agios Nikolaos and Elounda, the palm beach of Vai, high plateaus, mountain villages, and roads that end at small local harbours.

If you are looking for calm evenings, sea views instead of city noise, and smaller coastal towns, Lasithi is usually the right direction. This hub page brings together my guides, beaches, and experiences in the region so you can plan a slower, more personal trip to eastern Crete.

What Makes Lasithi Special

  • Agios Nikolaos & Elounda: relaxed seaside towns on the Mirabello Gulf, with promenades, tavernas, and beautiful bay views.
  • Quiet coves and bays: many small beaches and inlets that feel more intimate than the long resort strips around Heraklion.
  • Vai Palm Beach: the famous palm forest and bright turquoise bay at the far eastern tip of Crete.
  • Plateaus and villages: inland roads leading to the Lasithi Plateau, small villages, old windmills, and traditional tavernas.
  • Slower rhythm: fewer crowds than in western Crete — perfect if you want time to breathe, swim, drive, and simply watch the sea.
